Fortnite Surpasses PUBG Record for Concurrent Players

Epic Games announced via blog post earlier this week that over the Super Bowl Sunday weekend, Fortnite reached a new high. Epic Games' newest shooter reached upwards of 3.4 million concurrent players, which is ahead of PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS, its biggest competitor's record of 3 million concurrents peak in January.

It must be said that these numbers includes players from both PS4 and Xbox One, as well as PC; PUBG's concurrent player count only includes PC players.

Even so, 3.4M players is a lot, and though specific numbers weren't reported, I think we all know where the majority of those players were playing. BATTLE ROYALE! *Ahem* anyway, this news is all the more surprising when you consider when it came. That weekend, the servers were so overloaded they actually caused severe problems, making it actually harder to get into a game than one normally would encounter.

This is a big moment for Fortnite and, like last year with PUBG, I'm beginning to wonder when (or if) either one will slow down at all. It also remains to be seen how the numbers will change when Xbox One players are added to PUBG's already incredible steam concurrent players.
