Since the unprecedented success of Playerunknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale shortly after, the Battle Royale genre had seen immense growth in popularity. With such growth, players have been waiting for the inevitable surge of copycat games looking to hitch a ride in the bandwagon. Now, it seems Massive Entertainment, the studio that made the come-from-behind success that is The Division, are rumored to be working on a new Battle Royale game of their own.
This rumor comes front Gamereactor, whose sources say they were commissioned into looking into the Battle Royale genre in January of this year. Massive seems to think they could make something happen in a relatively short amount of time. This comes as no surprise, especially as The Division already has some systems in place which would translate into the burgeoning genre pretty well.
At this time, is unclear if this will come in the firm of a new Battle Royale mode, a la Fortnite Battle Royale, or if it will be an entirely be game, but whatever it is, with Massive behind it, I'm sure it will be good.
