I Hate Non-News
I really hate non-news. By that I mean I hate news articles that post and say pretty much nothing. Recently I read an article mentioning Crash Bandicoot and how Sony is "certainly aware of the considerable affection--even reverence--in which the mighty Crash is held. But nothing to update at this stage in that area."
Then why say anything at all? Seriously, if you've nothing new to report, don't say anything at all. This is how leaks and rumors get started, somebody slips up and says something they shouldn't and Boom! secret's out before E3. But in cases like this where there is genuinely nothing to report, just keep quiet. Don't tease me with an image of Crash giving a thumbs up thumbnail and then tell me nothing I didn't already know.
Activision is supposedly looking into ways to bring the series back, but I don't believe that. I can't believe it, because if I do, I'll start to worry about it being like the terrible GBA games way back or the spin-offs that cropped up after Naughty Dog moved on to greener pastures.
And speaking of Naughty Dog, who would do a new Crash game? It can't be them, they've evolved too much to make a platformer, or even an action platformer, possibly in 3D. Naughty Dog has evolved into such a different studio than they were 20 years ago that a new Crash made by the team that makes Uncharted and The Last Of Us just wouldn't look right. So that begs the question: Who would make a new Crash Bandicoot game?
It would have to be someone passionate about Crash, who knows what made Crash so lovable, so fun, so great. Studios like Sanzaru and Ready At Dawn might be good candidates, Sanzaru having made the excellent Sly Cooper Collection, Ready At Dawn having made the God of War portable games as well as the collections.
So who would make a new Crash Bandicoot game? I just don't know. And until I do I can't believe that Activision is looking for ways to revive the series. I would love a new Crash Bandioot immensely, but I would also want it done right, and right now I just don't know who could do it justice.
