Who is the PS4 Pro for?
Not I. I won't be buying one at launch like I did for the original PS4. Hell, I've bought three PS4s and had one replaced after a lightning storm. Technically I've had 4 PS4s, and I have no desire to pick up this new Pro version.
Alright, obviously I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I know that there are a lot of people out there who do not have a 4K or HDR capable TV and may not be able to fully take advantage of this new system. There are also a lot of people who are just getting into the PlayStation ecosystem (welcome) who may feel put off, don't. This new system isn't for you. This new system is for the people who have loved the PlayStation 4 and want to move up, stay on track with the newest technologies or who love graphics but not PCs.
The PS4 Pro, for the majority of players, is an unnecessary half step up in PlayStation gaming. I really don't see this changing anything drastically or being a huge thing anytime in the near future. This new PS4 Pro is just a way for Sony to "future-proof" the PS4, make it upgradeable, but for a lot of gamers, it's not necessary. I really don't see this getting big or making a huge splash.
Honestly, Sony may have been better off waiting another year or two and announcing a new PlayStation. Whether that be PS5 or a bigger upgrade, maybe new hardware for the PSVR, which would have had about a year+ to marinate by that point, and had a better showing.
But we will see what becomes of the PS4 Pro. I'm sure it has a chance. There are people out there who do want to keep up with the times, who enjoy their 4K. Time will tell, but I'm not optimistic for it.
